Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important representative stated the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
